Wishing Well

Wishing Well

A Poem by Amber Rose

People visit me hoping,

I will make their desires come true.

They toss pennies in my shallow pool,

Asking for fortune and health.

Some feed me nickels and dimes,

thinking that the more they give me,

The more I will comply.

I sense the desperation in those who turn to me for help,

Looking to me as a last resort.

Most do not believe in me,

But they like to pretend magic is on their side.

I am not a genie that can grant wishes.

I am a monument,

In the middle of a park.

The best I can do

Is wish them well.
