Chapter 5

I was finally starting to get settled in at my new home. It was really strange actually. After about the second day of me being here, everyone just kind of walked around and didn't say much to me or anything, like I had been here for years. My lessons and trainings have gone well. Derek teaches us the history of our Ancestors and how it has affected the real world. For example, Columbus was actually running from Loki. He, not knowing he was a god, thought he could sail away. Truthfully he had no idea that the world was round, flat or rectangular. He just knew if he hung around, he would be dead. Of course you can't escape death and Loki did get him eventually.

I have also tried many forms of combat. I have tried swordsmanship, archery, flails and maces. Nothing seems to really feel right. My sword skills have improved massively with Adrian's help. My archery is better than others but not as good as Erica's. I have actually tried magic with Bailey but, I almost blew up our training room.

Today my classes were done, so I was heading up to my room to rest up a bit because I have private training with Derek later. No one else knew of this training because he didn't want the other kids to be jealous. I was almost to my room before a certain girl was waiting for me by my door.

Bailey said, "Hey Orion, I wanted to catch you before you went to your room and rest. Do you have an hour or two to spare?"

I sighed knowing that she must want to do something that was going to take a lot of effort. I said, "I don't know…I'm pretty tired. What did you want to do?"

She smiled and said, "Well, you've been here three days now and you haven't seen the underground of the house, so…"

She had piqued my interest, "What underground?"

"I'm talking about the underground part of the house. We're only allowed in there on weekends, normally. But, Derek said I could show you around in there."

I pondered on what could be down there. I knew she just wasn't going to tell me so I caved, "Alright, let's go see it."

We walked down the stairs through the library to other side when we came to a set of doors I had never seen before. They were tall and made of metal and they looked like prison doors. She opened the doors up and revealed a staircase that went into an oblivious darkness. She then smiled at me like everything was cool and said, "Lets go!"

She started to walk down but I grabbed her hand and asked, "What's down there?"

She laughed and said, "Nothing to worry about. It's a fun place Derek lets us come to on the weekends."

She starts walking down into the darkness and I hesitated to follow. I then took one step on the stairs and the whole place grew with light. I walked to the bottom of the staircase to see a wooden door that was open. I walked through the door to see Bailey sitting on a couch. I took in my surroundings of the room. In the far right corner there was a boxing ring and in the left were a couple of punching bags. In the far left corner there was another door with weights and stuff around it. Finally, in the right corner that was closest to me, there seemed to be a vault.

Bailey caught me looking at it and said, "That is where Derek keeps some secret stuff. It is impenetrable even by my strongest spells. I think I know what is in there. I know our security system is in there. There is another vault though I have no idea what's behind it. It's strange he has this vault and then he has a more compact one in there. I have seen the inside of it once when I first got here. It is the most hi-tech thing I have ever seen. He has a very keen eye kept on this place."

I nodded. I went over and touched it expecting it to open. But no such luck. I then quickly asked so I wouldn't look like an idiot, "What about the other door over there?"

I pointed over to the door where the weights and stuff are and she smiled and said, "I'll show you." She grabbed my hand and dragged me to the door she opened it and flicked on the lights.

What I saw, I almost could not believe. There were trophies, finger nails, heads, blood, and various items, all on plaques. At first I did not realize what they were and was disgusted. But then I realized something. They were spoils of war.

Bailey said, "These are your father's trophies. Not just your father though. It's also Odin, Loki, Sif, and Heimdall; the looms of Asgard. Derek lets us look at these every now and then to remind us of who our parents are."

I saw many things. I saw a shield that said, "For Thor, who saved our realm."

I saw a sword that said, "Property of Heimdall; keeper of the bi-frost."

There were so many things and so many trophies. I could go on for hours just naming the basics. Bailey cleared her throat and said, "This is my favorite of the rooms. Derek likes for us to see that our parents were big shots and we got a big name to live up to. But he also likes us to be prepared to fight in case of an attack."

She walked out of the room and walked towards the exit. I followed her out and I saw another door. I guess I didn't realize when I came down the stairs that there were two doors. I was just following Bailey go right. It is strange that I missed it because it looks like another giant vault.

She goes to this other room and punches in this code and said, "Only me, Adrian and Derek know the code to this room. We are the only people who have been here the whole two years."

The door slid open and revealed a dark room. Bailey walked into it and so did I. The whole room ignited with light. I looked around the room and awe. There was a weapons vault. They have real swords, maces, staves, scepters, bow and arrows and many, many other weapons. They were all just chilling out, attached to the walls. I did a little turn and said, "What is Derek trying to do here? Raise an army?"

Baileys face grew very serious and said, "To raise one or defeat one is the real question. Maybe he's trying to do both..."

I realized she was serious as a heart attack and said, "An army of what, though?"

She sighed and said, "I don't know. I wish I did, though. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe, he has just gathering us all here together in case of emergency. Who knows? I guess it's just Derek."

She sighed and walked out. I could tell that this troubled her and she thought about it all the time. I thought I had to cheer her up and said, "That didn't take near as long as we thought. Why don't we just go outside and train a little bit?"

She smiled and said, "Sure. Just let me go grab my sword and bow."

She ran up the stairs and down the hall. I figured I better run to my room too and grab my stuff so I sprinted up the stairs and to my room. I walked in and there was a note on my bed that said, Orion, we'll do these training sessions in the Underground part of the house. I know the kids won't go looking there especially in the middle of the night.-Derek. I read the note a couple of times before I remembered that me and Bailey were supposed to train, so I grabbed my bow and sword and ran back out to the hall way.

Bailey was impatiently waiting at the bottom by the doors and said, "What took you so long? Let's go! I'm itching to kick you butt."

I laughed and said, "Whatever, witch. You couldn't kick a fly's butt."

She scowled and I laughed. She hated it after I found out that her main thing was magic. The first thing I said to her was, are you a witch? So now that has kind of become my nickname for her. If she came up one for me, I had to return the favor.

We raced out to the tree that we had been fighting by the past couple of days. The main reason is because it gives out the most shade. When we got there, Adrian, Davis, Ashley, and Karan seemed to be getting into a bit of an argument.

We walked up and Davis seemed to be pointing his finger in Karan's face. I could tell it was starting to piss him off. Davis yelled, "You are a son of Loki, the god that turned on his family. You don't belong here."

Karan now looked pissed but Adrian said, "Lay off him Davis…Tyr hasn't exactly been a good god either. He's always starting wars with random people. So let's not be pointing fingers at him just because he is a son of Loki."

This is where they noticed me and Bailey were coming. Davis walked over to me and huffed out his chest and bit and said, "Orion, are you just going to sit by while Karan just sits here innocently?"

I was confused, "Did Karan do something wrong?"

Davis laughed and said, "He is a son of Loki. Is there something else that needs to be wrong with him?"

"But what harm has he caused? He hasn't proven himself a threat."

Davis roared with anger, "You have to do something. This kid's father stabbed his own brother, your father, in the back."

I simply said, "Karan does not control his father's doings. Are we going to blame you for all the death your father has caused over the years?"

This must not have been the right thing to say because he brought out his sword and said, "Take it back!" I brought my sword to my side and said, "I meant no disrespect but your father has caused a lot of death. Karan has done nothing wrong at the moment. Besides, I'm still new here. If anyone should be talked to about this, it should be Derek."

This, also, must not have been the right thing to say either because Davis charged forward at me. I was getting ready to brace myself but Adrian was already there at my defense. Adrian blocked Davis sword before I could. Adrian barked, "Back off Davis! Karan has done nothing wrong. Until he does, you will not touch him and you will sure as hell not touch Orion. He's still new here, why would you attack him?"

Davis seemed to calm a bit and said, "I am sorry. This is not normally my style. I have my father's rage. But I do not concede my opinion on Karan. You will all regret letting him stay here."

Adrian said, "I don't like Loki either. But Karan here has done nothing wrong. When he does something very wrong, I will personally help you escort him out. But until then, remain calm."

Davis nodded and pointed at Karan and said, "You, child of Loki. I will be watching you very closely."

With that, Davis walked away, or more like stomped away. We all gathered at the base of the tree where Karan stood a little bit shaken. I said, "Karan, don't worry about him. We have your back. You have my loyalty until you do something to cost it."

Karan nodded but did not say a word. He just teleported out of there. The four of us stood around the tree and talked a bit. Nothing important really but it finally went silent and I said, "Hey Adrian, I appreciate you sticking up for me. I might have deflected the first couple of attacks but I am not quite ready to take on a child of war."

Adrian nodded and said, "Don't worry about it man. I've got your back. Me and Ashley are going to get some lunch…you guys in?"

Bailey said, "I'm pretty hungry. What about you, Orion?"

I said, "No, but you guys go ahead. I'm going to work on my archery a bit."

They nodded and started walking towards the house. I walked over to the range to catch Erica leaving. She said, "Orion, here for me to give you some archery lessons?"

I laughed and said, "No, I'm just here to shoot a bit."

She smiled and said, "Alright…well, I'll catch you later. The others are going in to eat; I'm guessing you aren't going?"

I smiled back and said, "No, I'm not really hungry right now. But thanks anyways, I'll catch you later."

She walked away towards the house and I took my bow and leaned my sword against a tree. I stood in the middle of the range and took my aim. First shot was a little bit off the target. Second shot was way off the target; barely on the board. I took a deeper stance and took a deep breath like Erica told me. I closed my eyes and let the arrow fly. I heard a satisfying thud opened my eyes and saw my bull's eye. I am definitely not Erica or Morgan but I'm okay. Better than Brandon. He said something about the children of the sea and old curses.

I fired off at my targets for a good fifteen minutes when I smelled something. I smell a dreadfully familiar odor. It was a fire. I looked out towards the forest to see a giant forest fire going on. I then heard a blood curling scream. I realized something at that moment. That scream was human. I ran towards the fence. I noticed something small that was getting bigger and it was running towards the fences. Then I heard the scream again and I realized that it was that thing running towards me. Then I realized it was a girl.

I panicked but then I saw that she wasn't really running from a fire. She was running from the thing inside the fire. I saw the face of a monster. It's a very ugly monster. Then I heard Derek. He was yelling at me in the distance. But then the girl screamed and she was trapped. Adrian, Bailey and Davis were running my direction as well.

I knew if I waited for them to get across the field, that girl could die. With a moment of decision and complete adrenaline, I climbed over the fence. I hopped over out into the middle of the forest. The fire was everywhere. I ran straight towards the girl when I felt a whip strike me across the chess. I flew backwards. I tried to get up but I just couldn't. I felt like I was going to die here. But then I felt something tighten around my leg and I roared in pain. I felt my mind spark a bit in pain and I knew what was coming. A storm had begun above my head. Lightning struck around me. Then, the rain started to fall.

I felt my strength start to surge back through me, I steadily stood up completely. The fire was starting to slow down. This giant stared down at me like he was wondering why he could not kill me. I then realized why he was trying to kill me. I had the Electro magnetic field up again, I think. Then a sword went straight through the head of the giant. The giant fell and with a final breath it yelled, "SURT WILL RISE."

With a giant explosion, the blast knocked me backwards.

I awoke in a hospital bed. Or at least that's what it looked like. I wasn't sure of a lot of things at that moment. But, I did know this for sure though. It was the weirdest thing, waking up to a thirteen year old boy treating you. He was saying incantations that sounded like they were more than a million years old. It was very creepy. He then stopped and looked up at me.

Jordan said, "Orion, it's good to see you awake. I was starting to worry that you had gone into a coma."

I tried to sit up but my side burned like Hel, "I wouldn't do that if I were you. You had 1st degree burn marks. Not too severe. I got to you pretty fast. My dad being who he is, I was able to fix your burns rather quickly. You should not scar. But you will be done for at least another day or two."

I looked around the room curiously. Jordan caught me looking around and said, "We took you straight back inside the gates after your fight with the fire giant. If not for Karan, you may not have been so lucky."

"I didn't see Karan…what are you talking about?"

I then realized somebody had plunged a sword through the fire giants head, "Karan crossed the boundary right behind you. He jumped over and he did that phase thing and stabbed it right in the head. He was alright. His magic protected him. Some credit to you though, of course if not for the electro magnetic wall you put up out there, you and that girl would have been toasted."

I nodded and said, "Did the girl have burns?"

Jordan shook his head and said, "No. Most of your shield went to her. It was crazy to watch me and Brandon only catch the end of your fight. It was really weird though…it was like half of your shield went to protect her and the other half stayed to protect you. She was a bit further from you though so she was alright."

I nodded and asked, "So, do we know who she is? Why the fire giant was chasing her?"

Jordan opened his mouth but a different voice from the room came in, "I can answer the rest of Orion's questions here, Jordan. Why don't you take a break? He's okay, right?"

Jordan nodded and said, "Yes, sir. He's okay. Just needs to heal for the day, maybe tomorrow too. He just needs to take it easy."

The voice I now knew to be Derek said, "Thank you, Jordan. You did good work here."

Jordan nodded and walked off. Derek came to my bedside and sat down next to me and said, "First, that was very brave of you to go out there and help her. Second, you did a good job, but you should've got help first."

I interrupted before he could continue and said, "I was sure of it…if I had waited, she was going to die."

Derek raised his hand so he could talk, "I figured as much that this was the case. If Karan had not been there, though, you could've died. The girl is out, but we were all lucky no one was injured more than you."

I nodded and said, "Jordan told me that Karan and the girl were okay. He was dsying the truth, right?"

Derek nodded and said, "Yes, they are okay. But there is something else that we must talk about. It's something very…disturbing."

I sat up as far as I could go. Derek was about to continue when Bailey came into the room and said, "Orion! How stupid can you be?"

She then realized Derek was about to say something important and she said, "Oh…I'm so sorry, Derek. I didn't realize you were still down here talking with him."

Derek nodded it off like it was no big deal and said, "Its okay, Bailey. You talk with Orion. Orion, we'll talk in my office once you are feeling better. Bailey, try not to kill him too fast!"

He said that last part with a wicked smile and walked out of the room. Bailey came and took his spot and sat down next to me. She looked like she wanted to punch me and said, "Why did you go after her? You could've died!"

I simply said, "If I hadn't gone for her, she would've died! That fire giant was closing in on her."

She shook her head and said, "So, with close to zero combat training, you were going to go out there and take down a fire giant?"

I nodded and said, "Yes. I wasn't going to stand by and let that girl get slaughtered. Now if I had known Karan was still around, I would've waited and we could've attacked it together or devised a quick plan. But all I saw was that girl running towards me at full speed with the gate in her way and the giant behind her. She was a goner."

Bailey sighed and said, "Sparky, you've got to be careful. You could've died out there. Would it have been worth it then?"

I looked her straight in the eye. At that moment we had a little understanding. I said, "Bailey. I'm supposed to be a leader here. I would not be a very good leader if I had stood by, waiting for you guys to get there, and she would be dead. If I had hopped that fence and die, but Karan had saved her, then yes, it would've been worth it. I would die for anyone here in this building. Because I know it's what my father would have done. It may not be what he wanted me to do. But it was what I was going to do and I will not disappoint him."

She sighed deeply and said, "Sparky, just promise you will be more careful. You have only been here four or five days and you have almost died already."

I smiled a bit and said, "I promise, witch."

Someone cleared their voice. I looked towards the door and there was the girl that I had saved. She walked into the room. She was cute. She's five foot eight, maybe. She has a nice tan, brown hair, and brown eyes. She said, "Thank you for saving my life. Should I come back later?"

I then noticed me and Bailey were kind of close. And that she had a hand on mine. I blushed deeply and so did she. She let go of my hand and said, "No, its okay. We were just talking."

She gave us this look like 'do you think I am an idiot?' She said nothing for a second, so I said, "So, since I saved your life can I know your name?"

She smiled and said, "I am Lisa, daughter of Baldr."

(A/N) This I think may be a good chapter… I don't know. I wanted to get a chapter back to you guys faster because my last chapter was well reviewed. Thanks to those who are reviewing.
