A Bike RideA Poem by ExpresswithwordsA Bike Ride Today I chose to ride my bike. Which I have not done in a while. I sat on the seat on this warm day, And pushed forward on the pedal. I felt the bike begin to move forward, As I am doing right now, in my life. Two thin wheels keep me balanced, If they so fail, I will fall to the ground. A ghost of childhood whispers in my ear, As I recall the feeling of the wind, Blowing through my hair. The simplicity. All I'm doing is focusing on balance. Life is so complicated and twisted! On this bike I am free from it. I can just be myself, it does not judge. It just carries me along the concrete road. I get to the park on Sycamore Avenue. People are jogging along the track. A man sits on the bench staring at trees. Two little girls play in the dirt. I notice the girls scooter laying by the park fence. I think to myself, 'someone may steal it'. But then I realize...this little girl right here, Does not know that side of the world yet. She sees the world like a smooth bike ride. She does not think the way we've learned to think. The girl sees people as bigger versions of her. Pure, sweet and full of creativity. I read my bike along the track. Joggers move to the side as I ride. I feel the sun caressing my back, And listen to the singing birds. For the first time in a while, I felt free. I felt like I was me. The woman I thought I would become, When I was a girl. A free girl. Today I decided to ride my bike.
