Waves

Waves

A Poem by Expresswithwords

Waves

Standing knee deep in the water,

I feel the water rush past my legs.

I feel the cool water tickle my skin,

And the sand caress my feet.

Waves never stop, they never end.

The day it ends, the world will too.

They are dancing to an everlasting song.

Going nowhere and somewhere all at once.

This very year I let myself down.

I let a wave knock me to the ground.

I chose not to get up, no I did not.

I just laid there on my back.

I have legs to get myself off the ground.

And my arms could have helped me too.

I had everything I needed to get up.

Besides the inspiration to fight within.

I remember screaming for help.

Reaching out for a hand or caring glance.

Yet when the helping hand came,

I turned it away, lying still on the ground.

This very year I let myself down.

I let a wave knock me to the ground.

I had everything I needed to get up,

I chose to stay down, I chose to.
