My Heart Pounds

My Heart Pounds

A Poem by Nash

My heart pounds
On the door to heaven
A sign is hung
By a noose
“Sorry: we are closed”
But still
My heart pounds
Dark glimpse of the norn
in which the echo resounds
Till the weary eye glimpses morn
And resides by the wishing well
I toss in a coin and whisper
“I don’t want to dwell
In darkness, I glimpsed her
Bright and beautiful and golden”
And now
My heart pounds.
