Why am I awake?

Why am I awake?

A Poem by Nash

I want to sleep. I want to fall upon my bed and let my dreams wash over me.
I want to escape the world. I want to live in the only place I’m free.
I don’t want to wake up. I don’t want to see the sun rise.
I don’t want to see the faces of the living. I don’t want to listen to their lies.
I am alive, I am dying to sleep. If death brought dreams I would die now.
Simply cease. End. Dream forevermore.
But there is no evidence. No proof. I can’t trust death to bring me to my paradise.
Only sleep. So I live to sleep. I stay alive so I can have my next dream.
Each night of blackness leaves me more eager for the vivid beauty of a dream.
Sanctuary, an all-encompassing feeling of love. Of loving and being loved.
In my dreams I belong.
I belong in my dreams.
