A Poem by Anna Auel

short skirts receive
                              l o o o n g looks.
eyes lifted higher"wondering what is
                      between
the two halves of a whole.

a body pieced into parts
piecemeal
a meal for the imagination
a feast for the eyes

behold, herein lies:
what I am (what am I)?
                             my brain or my body
                             my mind or my spirit
eye color hair color skirt length piercing"or no piercing.
the books I read or the clothes I wear or the poetry I write.
it is all
          and not all.

short hair receives
short.
looks.
don’t look beyond the surface, it's not safe to pry.
