Hydra

Hydra

A Poem by Anna Auel

Pouring chloroform in an open wound"
hoping it will deaden the nerves, put this agony to rest.
Dreading the time when the monster awakes again to plague me,
bleed me dry, lap up my tears, tear open the fresh scab of my healing.
But let it sleep
for now,
steeped in nothingness.

Keep the creature at bay.
