It Doesn't Work That Way

A story of a girl I once knew...

 

We all wear masks to hide the pain,

We all stay hidden hoping to gain,

But the world doesn't work that way,

You don't realize how sad you are,

until you realise how sad your not,

Your life's so full,

But empty to you,

And that's the way that you work,

Your so sad, always crying,

But no-one ever sees the tears,

And that's the way your world works,

You say you're fine, when you know you're not,

You say you're happy, when you're anything but,

You try to pretend,

And hope that no-body notices,

But people don't work that way,

You hope to find the love of your life,

Just by looking and doing no work,

But life doesn't work that way,

One day your realise not everything is what it seems,

Someday your realise that the world isn't out to get you,

And life doesn't always go your way.

Life is hard and unfair - for everyone in some ways - yet you're correct that mostly people keep those masks on - hiding the reality of their life, making things seem so much easier for everyone around us that we believe fate unkind to only us. I liked the reality of this piece - and the realization that nothing can come from self-pity and inaction. Take life by the horns - and live it. Nicely done.
