The night the sky broke.

The night the sky broke.

A Poem by Scrawlid
"

And a piece of the sky came crashing down on chicken little.

"

The colored lights of chemical gas

that mixed together to open a path "

a blazing trail into the sky, led

the way with stars to shine.

And lying there, upon the dew-

stained carpet grass, I stared

deep into the sky-lit street

that could not carry feet.

My arms beneath my head, I sighed.
Dwelt in memory's lust of past time,
I stared and imagination ran
along the streets of star-stained grime.

Contentment to be free, at last;

amending with the past: the lights

of green, the color of her dancing eyes.
Unrestrained became her thoughts,

and feelings, so endearing at first "

before I realized her pouring words

were not just all about her.

And one day, the butterfly wings

I'd handed her, in silent faith,

I found in someone else's things;

Preceding my revealing date.

And suddenly, the southern lights

of mixed gas, in rare time,

split apart with a resounding “CRACK”

as the moon splintered into halves,

and fell through the cracks in star-glass.

The street over-head mine

powdered finely into the night

in silence, no more sublime.

No more the stars, could I see.

As my faith had been breached.
