War with an Enemy We Cannot SeeA Poem by Harrison Sheriftribute to those who worked day and night to contain the blown reactor at Chernobyl 30 years later, their sacrifice was still not in vain.Conscripted to fight a war To fight an enemy who we cannot see. Fireman We were first to the scene fighting that 1000m high fireball unknown to us, its spewing lethal doses of radiation but we are called to do a job that job is to put out that fire and some would give their all to do so Miners With masks and a shovel we dug under the reactor rotating every 3 hours We dug and dug, digging a 30x30m room under the reactor in record time we did it Biorobots with lead-lined suits and a shovel. We climbed the roof the reactor and shoveled the radioactive graphite off the roof. The machines going crazy and no one knew what the level of radiation was We were allotted only a minute on that roof But that minute took everything out of us In the end though, We succeeded in our goals to contain the reactor. We fought our war and believed we were unscathed but truth is the radiation killed us all We all just die at a different time and 30 year later, some off us are loosing our lives to this enemy. We are all victims of Chernobyl
