.
. . Cigarette smoke . And the endlessly counting odometer Railing against The tired whir of a second-hand engine As it attempted another hill. . I hit weather around Teslin, snow Coming down in May - heavy, So as to rock the bent aluminum Of an already compromised truck. . It was hardly a storm, but I bit Into the cigarette's filter, Leaned into the windshield So as to better see the road . And let the smoke play into oncoming traffic As I flashed the looming mountains . the crooked edges of my teeth. . . As I drove, alone, for the first time In a long time, I fell a little deeper Into love With the dubious, erratic nature . That was the temperamental weather Along this temperamental road. . . . © 2024 Ookpik |
