...A Poem by Ookpikhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5YOhcAof8I. . . To love, or to care Is to invite disappointment
- Rejection, pain - As to divest your feelings for
another . Is, by nature, to exist in a vulnerable
state. . . I was a daisy,
and I handed myself to her. And
then I watched, apprehensively, Unsure If she would
press my petals Between the
pages of a novel, Pull them -
forget me nots - Or worse still, Casually return
them To the
underbelly of the field, thrown With the kind of
cruel disinterest That suggests a feeling of Absolute indifference. . . Whatever she’d choose, I gave myself
away - It was no longer mine to decide - Which is why falling in love Is both so unbelievably alluring . And so unequivocally terrifying. . I transformed myself into a
flower - Fragile, delicate - And though it was within their
power To crush me, they chose instead . to cherish. . . The question,
then, Naturally
becomes: If they’d
crushed me so The first time, . Should I ever
love, again? . . . © 2024 Ookpik |
