...A Poem by Ookpikhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krjxyEme5vM&ab_channel=BrandonHilborn. . . And so I peel the cap -
The plastique beret -
Off the enwrapped pack Of my miniature Majorettes . Psilocybin
and . The Rocky Mountains . And I teethe a cigarillo From its standing ranks -
Five by two, ten toy soldiers In brand-labelled uniforms - . Titillation and Tobacco An ashtray filled With accolades . And I click the factory-set Button … to a camping-lighter’s starter, Watch butane run the nozzle, Belch fire from its tip . The road’s
yellow line Enfolds
into the cliffside And
the trees dangle uselessly From
the derelict rungs of a railroad track . And my tires turn And the passenger’s side window Leaks the occasional entrail From the car’s carcinogenic belly . And the road weaves wonder Between the schisms of a river, The bleeding of the road signs and The slow, igniting trails . Of
the Perseid meteor shower . And the story blends together And the sky begins to fall And the lines encase one another And an owl sounds its call . And kilometers grow To an afterthought - destinations, Useless - and the Empyrean sits inverted With the tree of Eden, fruitless - . . The mountains climb Beyond their reach Until their roots . Split fissures In trade ..
And moonlight
breathes a vacuum And
the cedars begin their lean And Kelowna
rolls In hills of sage - . Meridian, along the Mean - . And the path turns to pastime And the travel, just a game - And
the folded road Between Lytton
and Hope, . Toothed, . Earns its name. . . . © 2022 Ookpik |
