.

That’s a wound.

You have to treat it like a wound.

.

Stop the bleeding, first -

Intravenous drips and blood replacement -

Clean it, disinfect it,

Give it stitches,

.

Then give it antibiotics

And wait for it to heal.

.

And every time it weeps

You clean it again - carefully

So as not to let it reopen,

And you do that every time it needs it.

.

And when its finished healing

And the stitches have fallen out

And its no longer itching

Then you treat it for the scar tissue.

.

You loosen it, and knead it,

And remind the body to keep pumping life through it,

And reiterate to the mind

That the worst is now over.

.

And then, when all that is done,

When the hurt has lessened and the scar is naught

But a pale, white line …

Then you treat the soul.

.

And you remind it that good things still exist:

That beauty, and joy, peace, wellbeing …

That these things aren’t myths -

That, despite, they do still exist.

.

.

It’ll pass. Wounds heal.

But it takes time;

You have to take care of them -

Treat them for what they are -

.

.

You were wounded, somehow,

Something, somebody,

They hurt you

Badly …  but if you don’t treat it like an injury,

.

Then I’m sorry, without the assertion

That hope in fact still exists,

Even if the wound

Does eventually heal …

.

The symptoms will persist.

(author’s note: I have zero medical training. This is written as allegory. )
