...A Poem by Ookpikhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ch8pwy-V1E8&ab_channel=Slyfer2812. . . You don’t know me very well. We don’t really know each other. . There isn’t any music, no words that I could write That will give you what you want: What you want from me Cannot be expressed through a poem, . There isn’t a piece of music in existence That can satisfy what it is you’re looking for. . . The songs, the verses, the words, They’re just grazing against it; They’re barely even touching it; They’re just brushing against a feeling. . . What you want, the things you really want, Take a very long time to uncover - It takes a lifetime, actually, and it’s part of the human
condition To have to go chasing after them, blind. . . Nobody can do that for you; it doesn’t matter how skilled, How insightful, or how intuitive any one person might be; What we pursue in life, our experiences and the meanings That they inform … . We ultimately pursue alone. . . However, though I can’t promise them to you On your own behalf - though I can’t conquer In your name, discover at your behest Or share through my eyes . Anymore than you can share through yours … . I can promise to be there while you do. I can promise to look out for you - To care about you, For it to matter to me as it happens. . . I can promise that. And I can promise not to betray it. . . But they’re not things you’re supposed to give away lightly And nowadays, people promise them at their own risk. Whether or not I would, is a question I shouldn’t have to
answer - It takes a minute, to be convinced that you love someone: . Sparks don’t magically just become fires. . . It takes time; you have to trial; it builds momentum. You want me to love you, but even love needs its reasons: . It takes time to learn another person, to grow with them, To develop a kind of symbiosis, Synchronicity, And then it takes more time . After that . To realize that over the course of it You’d somehow developed a connection That would absolutely destroy you Were it to've been bent, or to be broken. . . That’s how it works. It hurts. You wager. You take inconceivable risk. . . But it is the most beautiful, and meaningful thing I’ve ever
encountered: To care about another person enough To wager your own heart Against the very likelihood of its breaking. . . Everything else I’ve ever seen Pales, against that - Everything else is small by comparison. . . . . . . © 2022 Ookpik |
