If you asked me directly, . If you watched me closely and gauged my response, . I couldn't tell you what my life was meant for. . . I couldn't tell you why I did the things I did, . Or overtly, why I didn't when the opportunities arose. . . It seems the wisest thing a person can say, . That Socratic statement: . "I don't know." . . If you were to ask me what I wanted, . I'd say I wouldn't know. . . If you were to ask me how far I'd be willing to go, . I'd say I've never had to, . So I wouldn't know. . . If you were to ask me of law, . Or of love . Or of God, . . I'd say there seems to be all at once too much to know . And not nearly yet, quite enough. . . I'd say it's not knowing that gives it substance . And that I'd probably pity God . In his making of it all. . . I don't know, . I'd say. . . And I'd hope I never do. . . © 2020 Ookpik |
