...A Poem by OokpikAffirmation, they say Lays at the fundamental core Of what is giving and feeling love. Affirmation, they say - the act of affirmation. I know you. I understand you. I respect your flaws And I appreciate that without them I could love you no less than I already do. Affirmation Is a currency. And I’ve found It’s best spent wisely - For fear of over saturating A market in which Every being that draws breath Intends to invest. Be selective with your love And yet never withhold it. Deliver it to those who have not yet come to feel it And abstain from lending to those who already have enough. The ego is quick to soak And yet let pour for those Whose withered bones Graciously request A small dousing of the leather Binding the box’s drought Within its unrequited Treasure chest. Douse those souls. Especially when you see A pair of eyes that have forgotten The power of true and honest intimacy. Eyes like those are parched And though discretion is a virtue, For eyes like that it's best to pour. Pour until they can drink no more Or pour until there is nothing left to pour.
