Smoky Mirrors

Smoky Mirrors

A Poem by Ookpik
"

stoned without my glasses on a foggy night

"

today, I was walking

in the smoke and mist,

without my glasses to see.

its irrelevant as the fog was so thick

without them I saw plainly.

my eyes were to spot the lights

of headlamps on cars.

in the dark my lenses clouded

and without them i saw far.

I saw the cars bearing down ahead

like a predator or wild Smaug.

from far behind I saw the light

leave a ring as it touched the fog.

a halo to remind me

of the things that i have seen.

a halo seems appropriate

as for me it was a warning.

and when my eyes did see a circle

that might mark a worldly passing.

I swear I checked my shoulder

and made sure oncoming drivers.

did see.

me.
