I Am My Own Foundation

I Am My Own Foundation

A Poem by Ookpik
"

written after I received news of a very traumatic event.

"

I am my own foundation

To a house that rises and falls

I make my own construction

Of grand stairways, rooms and halls

yet after all I find myself

amongst my house in ruin

with empty belly and drafty home

a winter woken bruin

It hurts a lot to lie there

beneath the open sky

with a heavy hurting shoulder

Doing my best not to die

yet I am my own foundation

my basement lies un-demolished

its buried meters deep you see

Forever un-abolished

And with its use I find the strength

to gather up my gear

Make ready myself for hardened labour

make battle cries to hear

for when the house does stand anew

It will be a few inches taller

forever reaching for the sky

and never growing smaller

For I have the strength to keep myself

no matter how hard life tries

I will continue growing upwards

Towards the inevtiable

Sunrise

This was beautiful. Reading this I could really get a feel for how hard it is building your house all by yourself, and how important having support is. It flows so wonderfully and just everything about it makes me connect. It's simply wonderful.
