Turbulent Times (University work)A Poem by OokpikJust a poem written in UniI hear the windows rattle, And the gate to my front yard slam shut. The weather's wind and rain Against my little self made hut.
I step out to imagine The god that could make such a torrent. As I see the deluge come down, I wonder what tragedy a storm like this might warrant.
These are turbulent times, That shake the very ground we walk upon. With tremors through hands and feet, Its no wonder we remain so withdrawn.
What with bills, cars and rent, Of course were so malcontent, While trying to make our assent Up the hierarchical ladder our society represents.
People lament and repent Just trying to circumvent The goddamn dollars and cents On top of the full extent Of weight that pressure tends to present.
Gotta make ends meet, No matter the cost. Gotta put one foot in front of the other Despite the risk Of them getting lost.
But S**t
It’s a struggle for sure, The stress life provides. And it doesn't even relent When the tempest subsides.
Its about learning how to cope, While treading this precarious tightrope. And sure it’s a slippery slope, But to see it to the end, You've got to cling To that ill begotten Thing called Hope. © 2016 OokpikAuthor's Note
