Chapter 4

Chapter 4

A Chapter by Kayla

Working in class with Elizabeth was a new experience for Raphiel. He normally was not paired up with a person who was so emotionally closed, yet at the same time so brilliant. She never once made eye contact with him, but they worked rather quickly and they were done with the assignments far sooner then any of the other students in the class. She was almost like competition for him, but at the same time, not. She challenged him, and he loved it, though he had a feeling that something was just not right. The bandage on her head and the few he had seen on her hands or arms had sent up red flags in his mind. Either she was very accident prone, or someone was hurting her, something he would not stand for.

The bell at the end of class rang and everyone began to pack up, leaving class just as quickly as they could. Raphiel would have followed had he not turned and seen that Elizabeth was moving just as slowly as she could while packing. She was clearly upset by something, but so far she had divulged very little personal information and he doubted that she would be forth coming now, but it would not hurt to ask.

"Hey, you okay Elizabeth?" He asked her, stepping in front of the table to look directly at her.

"I'm fine." She muttered as she stuffed the rest of her books into her bag and stood from the chair, heading out the door just as quickly as she could. Raphiel was a bit confused, wondering why all women always said they were fine when clearly they were not. He guessed it was a way for them to get the guy to work to find the truth.

Raphiel walked out the door and turned down the hall in the direction he had seen Elizabeth going, raising himself up on the balls of his feet to see over the crowd. It was hard to see over the throngs of moving bodies, but finally he found her, and she was with another boy. Raphiel could not see their faces or hear what they were talking about, but Elizabeth seemed to be trying to get away from the guy. He had to push his way through the other kids in the hall to reach the group but eventually he did, and he lightly grabbed Elizabeth's arm, seeing the other boy had a rather firm grip on her and she was trying to free herself.

When he grabbed her she whipped around, a glare on her face until she saw that it was him. Her look changed to one of surprise, though at the same time she appeared confused.

"What do you want, nerd?" Came a male voice, forcing Raphiel to remove his eyes from Elizabeth's beautiful face and let them fall onto the man who also had a hold of Elizabeth. To Raphiel, this boy was not much to look at. He had plain features and dull blue eyes, which almost reminded Raphiel of ghosts he had heard people talk of in the past.

"To take my friend to her next class." He said matter-of-factly, playing it off that he had found her just to bring her to class. It was a lie of course, but that kid didn't know that.

"She is my friend too. I have something I need to discuss with her." The man retorted, making Raphiel want to shove him away. He did not like this guy at all, there was just something about him that made Raphiel just want to throw him in a deep hole and let the rain water slowly fill it up. Then, when it was full enough for him to get out, Raphiel would put a large concrete slab over the hole.

"I'm not friends with either of you!" Elizabeth yelled, making Raphiel jump at the suddenness of her loud voice. She ripped out of his grasp, which disappointing him, but she also pulled away from the kid, and that made him feel a bit better. It was clear that Elizabeth hated him, what with the severity of the glare she rounded onto him. Though at seeing the same glare directed at him he felt upset.

"Touch me again and I'll kill you!" She screamed back at them, disappearing into the students milling about in the hall. Raphiel turned to speak with the boy who he had just rescued Elizabeth from, but he was already gone, and in his place, Cole stood with his hands in his pockets.

"Well, that was an interesting exchange." He said with a grin, turning and giving Raphiel a pleasant, yet condescending grin.

"Don't start! I need you to keep an eye on that girl. Her name is Elizabeth." Raphiel began, the smile on Cole's face growing wider, which disturbed Raphiel. He had no time to ponder the reasons though. He had to make sure that she would not be bothered the rest of the day.

"Follow around a hott girl that smells like that? You got it!" He agreed in an overzealous manner, taking off before Raphiel could say anything else.

"He had better not lay a hand on her." Raphiel growled, feeling odd at how protective he was of this girl he knew almost nothing about. He knew her name, and her classes, but other then the fact that she was smart and she was covered in bandages, there was nothing else he knew. He had to find out more about her, and find out why her smell was so alluring.

Well, to me, it sounds a lot like a dramatic form of Twilight. Just saying.
