Chapter 3A Chapter by Kayla
"Raphiel! Wake up!" The voice was female, and almost musical as the woman who owned it hollered through the hard ash door. Raphiel opened his eyes a bit and sighed, hating to wake up during the day. It's not that the sun bothered him, he just didn't like the way that it made him feel.
He sat up slowly and rubbed his eyes, sliding out of bed and throwing on some clothing he had set out the night before. It was not something he normally did, but the first day in a new school often called for a special outfit. "Raph!" Came the same voice, causing him to smile and sigh at the same time. "I heard you! I'm up!" He called to the woman, sliding on his shoes and tying them quickly. He left the room and walked down the hall. He paused as he met up with a female, though not the one with the musical voice who had woken him up. This one had a voice like a metal grinder, and a personality to match. "Good morning, Raph." She said to him, stepping close to him and looking, first at his lips, then into his eyes. "Hello, Victoria." He replied, leaning back away from her a bit. She was the kind of person that always got what she wanted, and became ugly when she did not. Though her face could have rivaled those of supermodels, her inner beauty was non existent. "Why have you not let me into your bed yet?" She asked, moving closer to him as he moved away. "Because you remind me of something very unpleasant." He told her truthfully, finding satisfaction in the hurt and outraged look on her face. He slipped by her quickly and made his way down into the kitchen where the woman with the musical voice, and her husband, were waiting. The woman was named Lillian, a woman who had been a singer before she was turned and had lived in England, though she did not have the accent. Raphiel knew very little about her other then those facts, she was not very giving about information on her past. She had long strawberry blond hair that was always smooth as silk and smelled like flowers. Her skin was pale, and she was beautiful, more beautiful then most women that Raph had seen. She was a medieval princess in modern times, straight out of a fairy tail. She was only five feet tall, but what she lacked in height she made up for in personality. She was a spit fire, someone who would help you without thinking one moment, then turn around and break the neck of someone the next. Raph was always glad that she was on his side. He never wanted to be on the business end of her bad moods. Beside her stood a giant of a man, a dark skinned behemoth with a kind nature and a smile that could have inspired all other smiles. He was an African man, a tall one with a muscular body that had served as his downfall when the slavers had come looking in the 17th century. He was turned on the slave ship over to the new world, found later when he jumped off the ship and taken to others like him. He had changed his name to Gregory, knowing that no one would have be able to pronounce his birth name. "You seem agitated." Lillian said to him, reaching over and placing a hand on his chest so he could not walk by her. He looked at her and sighed, hating how she acted like a mother even though he was older then she was. "Victoria, again." He said to her, watching as a tall boy with blonde hair and a cocky smile walked into the room. His name was Cole, and he hated Raphiel. He was naturally pale and lanky, like one of those emo men you see in bands with the hair that all the girls love. He had a rotten attitude that showed in either the cocky grin, or a scowl, both on his face half the time. "Good morning, blood suckers!" He said in a rather cheery way, causing Raph to roll his eyes and look pleadingly at Lillian. She smiled at him and removed her hand from his chest, letting him by. Cole was one of those who preferred to drink fresh human blood straight from the human, rather then the chilled stuff that they got from their contacts at the blood bank. "I don't see why you all drink that s**t, it's nasty." Cole stated rather loudly, leaning against the table with his hands in his pockets. With one look from Gregory though he backed away. One thing about Cole was, he was terrified of Gregory, the large man having more then enough strength to push a full grown tree out of the ground. The advantages of having been strong as a human, then gotten the added strength when he was turned. "We drink it because we are supposed to be keeping a low profile." Gregory responded, his deep voice reminding Raphiel of a summer thunderstorm. Cole rolled his eyes and walked out the door, not bothering to grab the backpack that had been placed out for him. "Why I even let you talk me into letting him into the family, I will never know." Raphiel said to Lillian, taking the cup she offered him and drinking it down. He hated having to drink it, but he hated the thought of dying more. "Don't forget! It is your first day!" Lillian called after Raphiel as he walked out the door, causing him to grin and shake his head. He grabbed the keys to his car on the way out, driving to the school, which was a lot smaller then some of the schools he had been to. He didn't mind though, he was glad for a new setting other then a crowded city. It would be easier for them to stand out here, but Raph had felt that city life was just not their thing, well not his thing anyway. Cole had protested the entire time, never wanting to come to an out of the way, small town like this. He parked and got out of the car, looking around him and pushing his hands into his pockets. There were quite a few students mulling about as the buses started to arrive, more students pouring out of them. He walked along the walkway by the parking lot, looking at the students when he felt someone walk into him. He was about to apologize, but she beat him to it. Raphiel looked down to see a beautiful human girl standing in front of him. Her eyes were golden as the light reflected off them, her hair wavy and dark, though it was pulled back in a pony tail. He was fascinated by her appearance, and the deep sadness that lingered in her eyes. "It's Okay." He replied to her apology, giving her a dashing smile and getting an overpowering feeling to just touch her, but he resisted. She did not seem real to him at first, but he concluded that she had to be real. She had just walked into him. "Wont happen again." She said quickly, stepping around him and walking towards the front doors of the school. He watched her walk away, then walked into the building himself to get a class schedule. It was easy to find the office and the lady behind the desk was nice and she gave him what he needed easily enough. The class was not far from there and as Raph stepped in he was pleasantly surprised to find that the girl he had run into outside was in the same class. He walked over and took the empty seat beside her, placing his bag down on the floor. "Here you are again." He said to her with a dashing smile, glad that he was able to be in a class with her. She looked over at him, but said nothing to him. He was a little discouraged when she ignored him, but he reached his hand over for her to shake. "I'm Raphiel." He said to her, glad when she slipped her hand into his. Her hand was rough, nothing like he had expected. He looked a little closer and noticed a bandage on her face, and her hand was pock marked with scars. He was confused, not sure if she had gotten into an accident recently. He had not noticed it before, but blamed it on her dazzling eyes. "Elizabeth." She replied, shaking his hand and pulling her hand back to herself. Raphiel repeated her name again and again in his mind, determined to never forget it, or her face. "So, what were you working on last week?" He asked, moving a bit closer to her, hoping that she would not notice. "The minerals in balsamic rock." She explained, a grin forming on his face at how flawlessly she was able to remember. © 2010 Kayla |
