Gear Shift

Gear Shift

A Poem by Drea Dawson

"

Your colors are different
Got your soundtrack on repeat
And there’s a hum in the air
Whenever you’re around
And I miss it terribly
When you are gone

But the air
Just gets in the way
My gear shift
Just keeps me at bay
Otherwise I’d pounce
Like the Lion I am
I want to suck all the water from
your ocean blue eyes again

Your colors are different
I lay back and think of them sometimes
Like when we lie back
And look at the stars
Reclining in the seats of my car
And the music envelops me
Till there is nothing left

But the air
Just gets in the way
My gear shift
Just keeps me at bay
Otherwise I’d pounce
Like the Lion I am
I want to suck all the water from
your ocean blue eyes again
