Tree Ents

Tree Ents

A Poem by Drea Dawson
"

Spring 2010

"
I held onto your arm
like you were a Tree Ent
like you were Treebeard
and I was a scared little girl

You didn't stop me
instead you leaned into my grasp
like you were more than a lover
like you were a man

and I look back on all of it now
like it was a flash of a movie
a movie that isn't playing anymore
but a movie I still want to see
and I wonder where you are right now
and if you wonder about me

and if you see him,
Could you tell him to come back?
Tell him

I've been battered and used
but artist to artist:
You could be my muse

Cuz when I'm near you,
music turns into an ocean
and you are out there,
out there swimming around in middle
swimming with your friends

And it was cold on the front steps,
on the front porch of your goodbye
I shouldered the somberness
and tried not to cry
But I'd be a liar if I said
your half of the bed
is sleeping just fine

Sold my debt into slavery
so I could buy a one way ticket
out of the country

Too many meteors
spinning around my planet
Now they've gone and left my atmosphere
left my big blue ball
surrounded by an ocean of black

and if you see him,
Could you tell him to come back?
Tell him
