Dulcita

Dulcita

A Poem by Drea Dawson
"

Winter 2009

"

If I stay here

any longer

I might overflow

with smitten

But your mole

left eyebrow lifted

same as mine

Prominent as ever

We shared a smile

on my couch

Shared a cigarette

in the cold

I know you of old

and I missed you, sweet

And while you sleep,

I paint you a picture

but I'm not a painter

Says the writer

cross legged on your floor

You gave me a crown

Made me a goddess

with a word

Now my armor falls

and I throw down my sword

I am a sponge

to your idiosyncrasies

You let them

quietly engage me

Go home with your gods

and think about me

I'm pretty sure

I know what they'd say

I do like this poem a lot. It captures the heart, and you certainly know how to portray the emotions that you want to show.
