Call Off Your Dogs

Call Off Your Dogs

A Poem by Drea Dawson
"

Winter 2009 - The 1 year mark

"

Your dogs bark too much

You don't hear me

Got your guards stacked high

and your patience lined thinly

And you ask why I'm angry?

You let the beauty we made die

You let it wilt and fall into the air

and now there is grey in my eyes

There's a Z cut across my heart

You slashed me clean

You took something away from me

and I can't get it back

I was with you

around every corner

I hugged the turns with you

but I had to get out before you crashed

I know the world is whizzing by you

Everything is so fast and precious and lush

I know you yearn for something to hold onto

And for a long time, I thought it was my love

But you won't call off your dogs

and more importantly,

Your time is up,

but

There's a Z cut across my heart

You slashed me clean

You took something away from me

and I can't get it back

I was with you

around every corner

I hugged the turns with you

but I had to get out before you crashed
