Landfill

Landfill

A Poem by Drea Dawson

So what do you do,
When you float around
Outside of yourself?
Do you enjoy
Sinking in and sticking out?
Like the atmosphere
Was a sponge
And you were
The rolling river
And even on my days off
You walk soft
And sweet, and sweet
I fluctuate like my apartment A/C
And when I rise and fall
You can see me
My emotions give color
To my face
But you put meaning
In my words
You put violence
In my grace
So I’m looking for
Your footprints
All along
My frettboard
This song feels like
An oversized hammer
And under it’s weight
I sing it to you
Everyone’s hands are tied
And the world is ending
So farewell to our hopes
I’m gonna go build
A landfill
Let all my garbage spill
Well, at least I tried.

I love the concept of this poem. And the line "I fluctuate like my apartment AC" is just brilliant.
