Your Gaze

Your Gaze

A Poem by Drea Dawson
"

Fall 2008

"

I was crawling up your body.
I was tiny little me
Tearing off your clothes
Tearing off your shirt
Just to get close to you

I tried to slow you down
Tried to steal air from your mouth
And gave it back to you, wet
Leave your glasses on, I said
I want you to see me

I want you to hear me
Breathing in your ear
Seared by your gaze
I stayed

So close to your face

Your heartbeat kept distracting me
But I couldn’t stop looking into your eyes
For I am yours
And you are mine

Time always changes people
But I don’t want time to change your gaze
As you stand there, I feel myself tremble
Can you always look at me that way?
