Delete Me

Delete Me

A Poem by Drea Dawson

I can’t help but

regret my love for you

It’s out of place

out of time

and I try to hide it

like it’s a bruise

I don’t want anyone to see

layers of makeup

all over my face

I can’t let anyone see

I can’t let go of you

Countless times

know that I’ve tried to

But the memories win

and within them,

I can be with you again.

You have to delete me

I can’t be here

this is not

happening

We both regret so much

both slaves to the idea

of succumbing to the touch

You’re a CD that never wears out

I play you on repeat

But you are relentless

like this sea of doubt

Both of us reveling in mistakes

All the things that kept us apart

Yet, you still stop my heart

Years later, states between us

You still have that power

and I feel twisted in my desire

You’re the last picture I have

nailed to a wall no one can see

You have to delete me

I can’t be here

this is not

happening

our relationship starts feeling like spam...toss it away but the feelings make it keep coming back, again and again...
the speaker seems to ask for something that she really does not want....an ending.
the feelings are too strong to let her.
