Talking to you is like
talking to a photograph I’ve had
pinned to my wall for far too long
It’s like a long distance phone call
from the Mariana Trench
Or listening to that
Massive Attack song

Missing you is like
Missing a life we could’ve had
Kids we could’ve named
Places we could’ve lived
You forget, I speak French
But that’s not what we did

You’re more than a person
I gave you so much power

You were a God,
an Avatar to me
I worshiped you
Head down to your feet

Thinking of you is like
A ghost lightly touching me
A flickering light
In an empty room
My love consumed you
I remember so vividly

And I haven’t changed much
Especially not
The way I love
And I make no apologies
Your ghost is always welcome
I have no armor to protect me

You’re more than a person
I gave you so much power

You were a God,
an Avatar to me
I worshiped you
Head down to your feet

Wow, I am so reminded of the Beats, Sexton, Levertov...the confessional poets----such good work...

your poetry is enthralling...
I grew up on the Beats and their honesty...
