Rubik's Cube

Rubik's Cube

A Poem by Drea Dawson
"

Summer 2020

"

I’ve tried to solve your puzzle

But I’m no better now

Then when I was

Sobbing, car pulled over

Not even a block from

That apartment

I hate that I miss

I cried so hard that night

I longed for you

In a way I’ve never

Longed for anyone

in my life

But I know you don’t believe me

To dismiss my adoration was easy

Now, I have a pretty high IQ

But I can’t figure out

Your Rubik's Cube

Or why you do

the things

That you do

But I never stopped loving you

My photographic memory

Never left me

Although the edges

Have started to fray

The longer you’ve been away

And some faces are more blurry

I remember it all

Like it was yesterday

You lied

Every time you said it was over

Except the last

I fought you every time

My right foot stuck in your door

I just kept writing

Hoping you’d read me

And you did, secretly

Now, I have a pretty high IQ

But I can’t figure out

Your Rubik's Cube

Or why you do

the things

That you do

But I never stopped loving you
