Catalyst

Catalyst

A Poem by Drea Dawson
"

"
I got struck and stumbled on
the color of your iris
as it changes when you smile at me
Fields of green
are all I see

You change your color so freely
so frequently
I am in awe
of the way you quietly persuade

Your touch was a surprise
like a glass of wine
after a month of being sober

I drank you up quick
and it's that taste I miss
as I write you
love letters you'll never read

You make me want to concede
to give up the struggle
and let my wounds bleed

But I'm always afraid that you'll run
because you don't know you
as well as I know you
Parts of you are not lit up
They haven't gained illumination yet
I'll be the catalyst
to that realization
and your eyes will fill with regret

Your eyes fascinate me
but my chest is tight with fear
Sometimes the music I hear
is too loud
Cuz I value the sound
of your singing voice more
Even if it's off key
To me,
I'd rather hear that then the music
You make me lose it
And then you give it right back to me
