Atlas

Atlas

A Poem by Drea Dawson

"
You are my happy Atlas
I trust in your shoulders
I know you can carry me
And it makes me finally relax
Worst possible anything
You can take
And put away
Like it’s nothing
And it makes me hold on harder
Because you’re the first of your kind
To ever really do that
Now I’m introduced to joyful tears
And desperately trying to dam
This river of love you created in my heart
My levees break all the time
And I come rushing out
All over the floor and soaking you to the hip
I cover you completely
And you love me back for it
Such beauty you’ve held onto
Up close to your chest
You were waiting for me to come grab it
And when I finally did
You wouldn’t let go
We fought for you to let me have it
And you finally conceded
Such sweetness you create
Your eyes and your lips
They made me love you immediately
I just want to live next to your face
Feel your dimples touch my cheeks
As we smile our life away together
I can think of nothing better
There is no other
My very breath is for you alone
I create it just for you
As I will create life just for you
In the center of my belly
I will whisper to it every day
And tell it how much it is loved
And one day it will love us back
And we will again be whole
