Carnivorous Canvas

Carnivorous Canvas

A Poem by Drea Dawson

I feel hopeless
At the bottom of a
Bottomless sea
Blue like your eyes used to be
How I miss that sparkle

My love, I feel beaten
Your defenses have crushed me
I’m slowly being eaten
Underwater delicious
carnivorous canvas
Just laying there for all to feed on
I’m an oil painting
Quietly dripping
All my colors at your feet
They pool before you
But you just don’t see me

What a beautiful
Poetic
Romantic
I want to give you
It’s as simple
As saying Yes
But your mouth
Only says No

My love, I feel broken
Endless words have been spoken
But not the ones I need
You won’t concede
And tell me I’m yours
For better or for worse
Not a marriage
But a companion
For as long as you’ll have me
A lover
For as long as my parts move
They’d move for you
And only you
Because you are my electricity
You have no idea
How your affection
affects me
If you still think I’m unworthy

I’m fighting a losing battle
And I don’t know how to give up
You tell me to stay with you
You tell me to wait and see
But I can see fine from here
And in a few months
I’ll see twice as clear
And that’s what I fear
And I don’t know how to give up
