Chapter 6

Chapter 6

A Chapter by RunsWithCats

This chapter is pretty poorly written also along with the fact that the plot is not even meshed into it, and it just doesn't have any relation or ties to the story line. Maybe I'm too hard on myself.

            Chapter Six

I stepped out of the shower Peter had let me use and picked up my new clothes. Actually they weren’t new at all, but they were my clothes cleaned up. I dressed in silence knowing that soon I would have to face something that would be so different from my previous normal life. Peter had said I was different. What does that mean? Whatever it meant, I was about to find out.

My hair was still wet when he entered the maroon room. I was sitting on the sofa I had been tied to earlier. I shuddered at the thought.

“ How are you?” Peter asked, concerned.

“ I’ve been better.” He was now sitting beside me; both of us watching the fire in the fireplace. I turned toward him and studied his face. So smooth and beautiful, yet so stressed.

“ Are you still upset?” I asked with the concern now.

He turned toward me, his liquid brown eyes troubled.

“ I need to tell you everything. I just don’t know where to start…” He stood up and walked to the fireplace. He leaned against the mantel and looked back at me.

            He’s so perfect…

A smile crept onto his lips, and he turned back towards the fire.

            “ What?” I demanded.

“ Nothing… It’s just your thoughts…” He chuckled a brilliant sound. I blushed realizing what I had just been thinking.

“ Okay. You can start by telling me what that’s all about.”

He pushed off the mantel and started to pace the small room.

“ Okay, that’s reasonable. But it is confusing. You see, I can hear thoughts, but not only that, I can give people my thoughts.”

“ What am I thinking now?”

            “ You’re thinking about…” he began.

…how amazing it would be to kiss me.

Well… that was just a thought. I wanted to see if you could… and it was random… but you know…

Now you can see how this… ability can work.” A faint grin touched his lips. Suddenly he was beside me on the sofa. He stared at my face. He looked like he was concentrating hard.

“ What?” I reached up and touched my cheek. Just my normal cheek.

“ I’m trying to think about what might be so special about you. What ability you might have.” He sat back exasperated.

“ I just can’t think right now. I mean with you just sitting here…next to me… and Trey looking for you…” He laid his head back against the sofa and closed his eyes.

“ Wait. Trey’s already looking for me? What am going to do? I mean I don’t want to be near him anymore! Are you leaving?” I curled my knees up to my stomach and threw my head between them. I took a deep breath to steady myself. I noticed I was shaking. Peter noticed too.

“ No…well…” He let out a loud sigh. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me onto his lap.

“ I won’t leave you…but you have to… you have to go back. Trey has to find you. If he doesn’t, and he will sooner or later, he might hurt you again.” His arms tightened around me, and I leaned my head against his chest.

“ What am I supposed to do if you know… he’s Trey again?” I looked up into his eyes, and saw that he was torn.

“ Don’t worry… I’ll always be there. Just maybe not always visible. If he does anything to upset you…” Now his eyes looked ferocious.

I laid my head back on his chest, I felt his fingers run through my hair.

            “ I trust you,” I whispered.

At first I hadn’t thought he had heard me, but then I looked up and he was gazing at me. He leaned closer until I could smell his musky cologne. It not only smelled musky but had its own unique smell. It was almost sweet. The smell made my head spin.

He leaned closer. I was so intoxicated by his cologne that I didn’t realize what he was doing. I just stared at his perfect brown eyes that now looked soft and gentle. He bent down farther and gently pressed his soft, warm lips against mine.

Now not only was I dizzy, I felt like it was just me and him left in the world. Nothing else mattered.

He slowly pulled away, and I remembered that everything else did matter and soon I would have to face it. I wasn’t ready.

“ No… Please don’t leave.” His lips turned down, and I could tell that was upset that he had to leave too.

            Wait…

Now he looked confused. He searched my face for a reason to delay the inevitable.

I pulled my hand out from the small bundle that I had pulled myself into and wrapped it around his neck. I did the same with my other hand, and I slowly pulled myself up so that my face was even with his.

A look of understanding swept across his face, and his frown pulled up into an amused grin. I leaned closer until I could feel his warm breath on my neck. Slowly, I tilted my head and pressed my lips to his. His hands around my waist tightened and pulled me closer to him. His lips pressed to mine with a new ferocity, as if he was afraid to lose me.

            I love you.

            I pulled back.

“ What?” he asked, the concern back in his voice. “ Does your leg hurt? Did I hurt you?” Now his face was pained.

“ No! Never! It’s…Well you said… you loved me.”

“ I’m sorry! Was that too much? Did you-“

            “ No… shhh… No, it’s nothing like that. I just… No one’s ever told me that.”

“ Oh. No one? Really? Well, in that case… I love you. I love you very very much.” The corners of his mouth turned up in a smile.

            “ I think…” I started.

            I love you too. Wow…

Now his smile was huge. He bent down to kiss me again but froze.

            “ What’s the ma-“

He was gone. I was sitting there on the sofa all by myself. Alone.

“ Well hello. Nice to see you again.”

Trey walked around the edge of the sofa.
