IT HAPPENED ONLY YESTERDAY

IT HAPPENED ONLY YESTERDAY

A Poem by Miss Sharon
"

A screeching voice.

"
  • IT HAPPENED ONLY YESTERDAY

    It happened only yesterday,
    About a half-past-four.
I heard an awful screeching voice
    Behind the closet door.

Not being one to seek out doom,
I stood my place in fear.
And then I thought I felt some drops
    Of salted little tears.

What could it be behind the door?
And should I start to run?
    Whatever made that screeching sound
    Could not be any fun!

But as I turned to make my move,
    I felt a furry friend.
It was my teddy by my side
And so the dream could end.

So wonderful 💯 Love the end 👏🏻
Ohhh your poem brought so many memories of my childhood, fears, most of the time imaginary...and many times the presence of angels that I feel up to today. Wishing that teddy and angels bring only happiness to you Miss Sharon!
I hope all is great with you dear🌷

Thanks so much kind friend for your nice review. ~Sharon
Such an incredibly 'dear' post, full of genuine feelings and memories. Not only that, your meter and word use is, as ever, accurate to an nth.

I still have my teddy bear, he sits or leans - depending on his mood, on a small cushioned chest next to the right side of my bed. We looking after each other, sharing all sorts of days. Many't the time I wish him 'good night' and if he's still awake, will grunt in a sleepy but happy way. Love him to pieces. xx You've brought back many thoughts and memories, Miss Sharon.. thank you for sharing such a delightful poem. many ,

Although it seems it's very popular in US and the UK to have Teddy bears, I had a Tom(the famous cat) doll. Dolls are such good friends of childhood. Beautiful and touching piece of writing. Thanks for sharing Sharon🌸

You should cherish it indeed; even toys that touched us can be priceless. I was in suspense till the end.

You are welcome Miss Sharon.
I never had a teddy growing up. My childhood was pretty much obliterated by my father's death when I was six, so I think that may be why I gravitate to them now. I actually stop and hold one, put it in my cart for the duration of my shopping, then decide not to buy it. Feeling foolish, I suppose. But one of these days, I'll make it to the checkout with bear in arms. I just know it!

My pleasure!
I didn’t have a teddy Sharon, I had a special doll. All my grandkids have kept their teddies. We all need someone to talk to when we are children. Such a delightful little poem Sharon. It is a beautiful day here in the UK. I hope yours is equally so.
