A DIFFERENT RIDE

A DIFFERENT RIDE

A Poem by Miss Sharon
"

Things remembered....a comfort and smile.

"
A DIFFERENT RIDE

Things are never quite the same
As I remember when...
In simple times and hopscotch days
And sitting on a limb.

The air was filled with sounds of kids
And laughter in the streets,
Where we would gather there to play
With friends we'd come to meet.

Clipping cards to bike spoke wheels
Made sounds like motored rides,
And furry friends ran right along
While barking by our side.

The whole gang gathered at my house
To jump rope two by two.
When we got tired we went to play
Monopoly and Clue.

Mom always fixed some lemonade...
It really hit the spot!
And 'fore the dark we went outside
To that big vacant lot.

The crack of baseballs hitting bats
Filled up the summer noon.
Then runs and calls and slips and falls
Were heard 'till rise of moon.

Today...things are much different
And it's quiet one by one.
Computer screens light up a room
Beyond the setting sun.

Fingers strike those plastic keys...
Camaraderie?  No chance.
This world is lonely...cold and bare.
Seems minds are in a trance.

I long for simple things like joy
And friends here by my side.
I'd like to turn my ticket in
And take a different ride.

I remember doing every one of those things when I was young. The world was a kinder friendlier place back then...or so we thought anyway. The world changes and we must adapt, but it is not easy. Wonderful imagery throughout this one. I could almost taste the lemonade! Lydi***

Quite like this
A nostalgic remembrance of the good old days when life seemed much simpler.
I imagine you are currently tuning up your piano skills for a Merry Christmas sing song
Have a good one

Turn that ticket in for a book of E and D tickets, unless it Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride which was only a C ticket. That we are all gathered in our houses contributes to our separateness and tribalism.

Sad but true about this world, reality and relationships especially in the cyber realm nowadays. I feel you and I'm with you in those sentiments.
I felt it all.
