two Japanese Choka

two Japanese Choka

A Poem by Miss Sharon
"

two short Japanese Choka form posts

"
PEACE IN THE MIDST OF THE STORM
~Japanese Choka~

clouds in the distance
cold, grey, foreboding at dusk
white winds gather strength
to unsettle the children
who sleep securely
held safe by a mother's prayer
peace in the midst of the storm

CARESSED BY NATURE'S PAINTBRUSH
~Japanese Choka~

nature's silent call
like gentle noonday whispers
preparing for change
beneath the weeping willow
whose leaves dance softly
waiting to be the canvas
caressed by nature's paintbrush

The page is your canvas, Sharon. You paint such a lovely picture for us in the first choka. Mothers protect their children when they are young and still worry about them when they are grown. There is only so much we can do though. The second choka has such a peaceful feel to it. I enjoyed them both. You have always been good at the form poetry. Lydi**

dearest Sharon… these Japanese Choka are soft as butterfly 🦋 wings that flutter by when flowers bloom… You play poems like a Mello Cello … tenderly, Pat

These are quite clever and steer me back to haiku. Caressed is a strange choice of words given that a paintbrush moves but I guess gently touches. I wonder about the translation. Thanks for sharing.

the second one has such a beautiful calmness to it.
the first one makes me uneasy as I can't help thinking of those poor folks in Ukraine, dealing with
the madman.

Thanks so much Jacob for your kind response to these forms. ~Shron
I have little familiarity with the Asian forms, but I must say I like this one better than the haiku. Both seem to try to capture a moment in time, but the choka fleshes it out a little better, so one can get a better grasp of what is being described. The haiku, on the other hand, keeps you guessing.
