HOLD FAST THE PEN

HOLD FAST THE PEN

A Poem by Miss Sharon
"

A visit from "The Raven."

"
HOLD FAST THE PEN

It happened on a Tuesday eve
When I could sleep no more.
I heard a gentle tap, tap, tap
Upon my chamber door.

When up I got from out my bed
To see what might be there,
The only thing I saw at all
Was...darkness everywhere!

Now that was all there was you see,
So back to bed I went.
That music played within my head
Like other nights thus spent!

The room grew cold and then...again
That tapping sound I heard!
I bolted out the door with haste
And saw...a large black bird!

He lit upon the bedpost then
And as I turned around,
His eyes were sharp and when he spoke...
The darkness had me bound!

"Hold fast the pen within your hand,"
The raven spoke to me.
"I've come to bring your words to life,
And set your spirit free!"

Hi Sharon, yes, you have done Poe well, I feel the spirit of Poe through a Miss Sharon write. This is outstanding poetry, as I have come to expect from you, Sharon. The Raven is a most maligned bird, a messenger from beyond the grave, a harbinger of death but there is something in those black eyes that can hold you spellbound. Your poetic gem has me entranced. Have a wonderful Wednesday. Hugs always....Mike.

As per your review Christine... (I edited by leaving a full stop to the left hand side after each individual stanza. That worked for me.) I did the same thing and now have spaces between the stanzas. ~SP

"I heard a gentle tap, tap, tap"
"The only thing I saw at all

These lines speak volumes into pictures of a thousand words. I really enjoyed this poem. It doesn't hint at a story but inches into one that leaves the reader wondering what words it will bring to life other than these written. Wonderfully penned.

Thanks ever so much for your kind review! ~Sharon
No spaces Sharon. It's happened to me too on occasions. I've ended up with a long scarf. I edited by leaving a full stop to the left hand side after each individual stanza. That worked for me.

I love the flow and rhyme in this poem. Of course it makes me think of Poe. I have always found ravens and crows to be so intimidating and yet they are incredibly intelligent.

All good wishes dear friend.

No spaces, but I do see ravens flying around the poem, circling...
evermore, evermore.
the poem put me in a midnight dreary trance!
tap tap tap tap tap tap .....
