CHASM FALLSA Poem by Miss SharonBeauty in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. CHASM FALLS Perpendicular to Fall River Road, Chasm Falls cascades down craggy mountain terrain with frenzied furor in an early spring snow melt. The one-way route leading to the summit of Trail Ridge Road is arduous and dusty, lying silent to vehicle passage until mid-July. Maternal cries of magpie cradle the air, echoing throughout the massive canyon walls and I find myself incapable of being dislodged from this magnificent present moment. Towering above the falls, dense forests of lodge pole pine waft their sweet layers of fragrant Christmas-scent and at once I am a child. Beyond tree line, minuscule alpine primrose, blue columbine and garnet-colored king's canyon, aptly named in such royal settings, begin to bloom despite alpine height, frigid air and gale-force winds atop the snow-capped Never Summer Mountains. Leaning into myself to catch a better glimpse of nature's design, I am aware of the sacred vulnerability of life in wild places, where creatures are born to run free, soil is meant to remain untouched by human imprint and where nurturing spirits retain safe passage into virgin territory for those who choose to enter. *********************************************** © 2021 Miss SharonFeatured Review
