In still of night it came to me
Upon my slumbered bed.
At first I did not hear it well
Nor know just what it said.
I sat me up to better see...
Perchance to better hear,
Just what the voice spoke soft to me
As though it came quite near.
It was YOUR voice that called my name,
Though you had gone away...
With death chant of immortal realm
Wherein your body lay.
No other day upon this earth
So filled my heart with dread!
To see you lying motionless
Upon your final bed.
For death holds immortality
Like nothing else on earth.
Our days are short within this realm....
Too soon comes death from birth!

Beautiful write in 8/6/8/6 quatrains. Flows like a dream and the message contained understood perfectly. To see a loved one lying motionless in death's embrace is without doubt life changing. Those images never leave you. When you least expect it they have a habit of coming back. Your lines touched me Sharon. Lovely classical write.
