She laced up her running shoes and headed toward Golden Pond,
as she did most afternoons weather permitting. On this early spring
day at altitude, there was still a cool crispness in the air.
As she reached the trail head she began a slow jog to warm up her
sleepy muscles. In the near distance behind her she heard footsteps
gradually approaching. Turning briefly to take a look, she saw a tall
nice looking man pacing at a slow jog. He dipped his head slightly
to acknowledge her gaze. Then she nodded woodenly and turned
back to her stride.
As he caught up to her, her cheeks colored under the heat of his gaze
and she suddenly became aware of his classically handsome features.
His voice broke with huskiness, ''Hello!'',he spoke softly. Just one simple
word was the beginning to a story she would remember for a lifetime!
Barely able to answer, she replied in a broken whisper, ''Hello.''
Slowing her pace to allow him to pass, she was surprised as he slowed his
pace as well. They jogged smoothly in even strides around the pond and
soon found themselves back at the beginning trail head. Stopping briefly to
catch their breath, he was the first to speak. ''See you tomorrow?'' he
spoke in a mildly interested voice. ''Sure,'' she replied, trying to hide her
excitement and jubilation.
Walking leisurely back to her car she thought to herself...''What an awesome
motivation to go for a run!''
Love it, love it! You've written a story, a description of person and intent, spread it out at quite a nice pace, added a hint of weather, of clothes, etc.. and then.. continued gently into what I suspect was quite a long trail.. .. (Make note to find running shoes!)
A delightful and finely written tale, Miss Sharon!
What a happy story, well-written. It left me hopefully imagining many happy morning runs, and much more, for this couple.
