KENOSIS

KENOSIS

A Poem by Miss Sharon
"

The ineffable spirit of the Rocky Mountains....

"

Emptying myself of all that I have become, I stoop to see my reflection
wrinkling in the quiescent creek and in that moment time becomes a weightless
metaphor for memories which vanish as though they never were.

Fingering the smooth, cold stones in silence, I stand gazing at the open expanse
of Horseshoe Meadows and the fifteen million years they have been here
before man was chosen to hold their beauty to heart with reverence and awe.

The longer I gaze at the layers of pastel colors on weekend cocktails in open
markets, I am a child doing cartwheels as passersby remain lodged in smoky
mazes of adulthood confusion while failing to observe the lemon sun rising...
illuminating bronzed stone and red slate crags.

No one with vision can help but gasp as rose becomes lilac, becomes buttercup,
becomes teal.....becomes morning in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado! Here
in the ineffable silence of altitude, Nature gently whispers, ''Come to me.''  And
even as she bears her own weight beneath my feet I am transfixed in the moment
where thoughts are unattended and I am better able to cope with life's consummate
realities.

My love and esteem for these mountains grows deeper and I lose track of time
as an amber sun pulls itself beneath Lumpy Ridge with her white-laced peaks
and I realize....this day has vanished.

beautiful piece....i reflect on this...think about looking in those lakes, creeks, meadows as a child and seeing all the possibilities...

looking in them now, i see me...and what has passed, and how i took advantage of some of the possibilities and maybe not others...

but is there peace or regret in the reflection...that is the question raised by this poem...and the idea of the vanishing days.

love this, sharon.

Full of the love of nature and the mountains; I love the lemon sun rising. I think you have found your writer's voice and don't sound inhibited or restrained. Lovely.

Thank you my friend for a lovely and complimentary review! Much appreciated. ~Sharon
"time becomes a weightless metaphor"....such a lovely line, Sharon! When we are children, we delight in all nature has to offer. Often, as adults, we walk on by....never noticing the beauty. When you write of your deep love of the mountains and the serenity they offer you, the poetry is always wonderful. lydi**
