THE ROCKING CHAIR

THE ROCKING CHAIR

A Poem by Miss Sharon
"

The life of a very special chair.

"
It came one Christmas long ago
And sported big red shinny bows.
The rocking chair she'd wanted so,
Where she could sit and rock and sew.

Then came one very special day...
She heard her husband sweetly say,
We have the son for which we prayed!
They wept for joy that springtime day.

Before too long a girl was born!
That tiny head with bow adorned.
And as she rocked her through the morn
The rocking chair was then reborn.

So many years had come and gone
As she grew old and weak and drawn.
They placed her in the home one dawn
Her rocker came...the family's fawn.

And when she rocked the old wood creaked.
It seemed to give her life's critique.
The nurses knew she could not speak
So in her room they stopped to peek...

And saw her form, a shadow cast
Within the chair that held her fast.
The creaking wood in silence cast....
Its mission here was done at last.

How beautifully emotional this poem is, Sharon. My father had a special chair...his recliner. The day it was carried out the door and down the stairs of my parents apartment was almost more traumatic than the day of his death for me. A chair....from whence the world is watched. People have memories of that person in that chair. The rocking chair in your poem did its job well. The rhythm and rhyme throughout the poem is stunning. Lydi**

This brings to mind the special chair us kids bought for my father. Just seeing him setting in that chair year after year was a blessing to his 9 children. Thank you for bringing to mind such beautiful memories. Valentine

You are most welcome my friend...
Very well written for that old chair of mine rocking alone in an old rocking chair with no one around her that should care she found herself rocking alone in an old rocking chair. Bless by the one who loved her the best Jesus the Christ her savior has come to take her home once again.
