THE CRIME OF THE SCENE

THE CRIME OF THE SCENE

A Story by Miss Sharon
"

A fatal love triangle.

"
It seemed innocent enough when it first began...it was after all just
a simple meal between two friends. ''Let's do lunch,'' he'd say with
his crooked, boyish smile she adored. ''Sure,'' she replied...his cobalt
blue eyes causing her to forget the gold band on her left hand, but his
lean muscular physique....causing her to remember.

Soon there were after work drinks at a secluded pub just east of
town and she became a stealth liar in order to cover her tracks.
Sometimes she forgot if she were trying to deceive her husband
Tom or herself, as one lie slipped with casual ease into the next.

Several months and innocent rendezvous later, there seemed to be
no need for pretense as friendship became more than she'd ever
dreamed possible. They slept within each others arms exhausted
and spent. But tracks and lies have a unique way of becoming
lethal tools for revenge in the hands of the betrayed.

She awoke with a start.
"What was that?" she asked. "Shh, don't worry
about it," he said. It was probably just a racoon. Go back to sleep."
Just then the motel room door crashed open with deafening force
as they strained to see in the dim light. ''No Tom, no! Please....don't!''
Suddenly two shots pierced the midnight clear, murdering the
silence as Tom became their unexpected, undermined and uninvited
guest......at the crime of the scene.
