Across his back is a map of scars 

Her mind is an empty battlefield 

They're not sure who they are 

The scars won't ever fade away 

That battlefield will never see light of day 

The aches of the past still haunt him 

She's trapped nowhere, going in circles 

No one will help them as they wear thin 

It doesn't matter, though 

Their future's bright as sun on snow  

Across an ocean he went to search 

Looking for something to fulfill 

The longing in his heart that made him lurch  

No one deigned to share 

That if he loved himself, no longer would he care  

She traveled across the land 

Looking high and low 

Seeking someone to speak for her and to hold her hand  

No one bothered to tell 

That if only she loved herself, life wouldn't be such hell 

 

In the end, they learned it on their own 

He left the past behind and learned not to hate his scars 

She accepted the trauma and let her words be known 

And through their journeys they found 

That loving themselves was such a sweet sound
