Call Of The Sea

Free Verse Poem

People are inexplicably drawn to it.
‘The call of the sea’ they say.

They’re drawn by its beauty, its gentleness.
Or perhaps, the thought of adventure.

But they don’t know the horror,
The death, the destruction it has caused.

Thousands of ships sunken,
Countless lives taken.

Although, the sunken ships are a thing of beauty, too.
Once they’ve been down there for ages.

Though all the death and destruction is horrible,
It causes life and beauty.

Plant and animal life thrive in the sunken ships.
The ships themselves are beautiful in a mysterious way.

There are only two types of people,
When it comes to this.

Those who feel the call of the sea,
And those who don’t.
