One Exhausted Moment on WingsA Poem by OneAmongstManyOne Exhausted Moment on Wings That’s how I left her With one last glance back to adore her Then out into winter Where the white-frosted leaves crunched underfoot And the air seemed to shine, clear of all mist As I thought of her look How my life was leading to this To a shake of the head and a shake of the fist Past the sparkling stream of the brook. I had carved out the path myself The golden-hued summertime days And the looks we exchanged In the glow of our youth and our health And the glorious warmth of the season Hands entwined, just ourselves to ourselves Reflecting the sun’s shining rays. Now I look back on the old times And the hints I placed all my faith in The laughs that rose through the pines And the thoughts that ran fast through our minds. Oh, what a state to remain in Those grand and idyllic designs. We were young in our hearts, maybe seventeen On the wind like the gentlest breeze And the soft drifting dandelion heads And the beautiful tales that we weaved While the grass brushed our legs. ‘Let our hours be split into threads And our lives trickle slowly like streams,’ You might have said to me. Bright is the future forthcoming Though I seek it alone now. Just the dream of the meadows And the heat of the summers And the gold rings of lovers remain. Waking would bear it away. © 2019 OneAmongstMany |
