In Blackening Light

In Blackening Light

A Poem by OneAmongstMany

In Blackening Light

Now is the age of ambiguity

The times to come aren’t ours to see.

So let these minds struggle and sway

In blackening light

And blackening skies.

An unreachable future a world away

Angel-like upon the mind’s horizon.

Once the optimistic visionary

‘There is good in all I swear to you’

The light will be revealed one night.

Some thoughts glide

With an idle tide

The keys to the heart aren’t easily found

Elusive like bees and butterflies.

Closed eyes are never opened wide

The soul’s ever darkening gyre

Where once were hopeful smiles.

This tunnel vision

And selfish ambition

Have wrought this fragile mind

Into something unrecognisable.

And the diamonds are worthless now

In this smoky breathless afterward

Over soon then cycling back around.

In recurring dream

You living stream

Lend your hand to those drowning in lies

Wipe every tear from their eyes.

A poem for our times no doubt. Nightmare futures darken our sleep. Shall we waken! Some lovely images in your precient poem. Hard to believe some are oblivious.
Sweet dreams.
